'Game of Thrones' Secrets: The Clever Easter Egg You May Have Missed
"Game of Thrones" fans still have a long wait ahead before the HBO series returns for its 8th season, which recently entered production. To help tide fans over, here's a rundown of the latest news about the show, plus the reveal of a delightful Easter egg hidden in a past episode.
Vanity Fair reveals that Rose Leslie made Kit Harington go to a costume party in a store-bought Jon Snow outfit. Harington explained that he and Leslie had been invited to a birthday party with a "bad taste" theme. The couple found a costume shop, where the staff offered him the Jon Snow threads. "Rose just whispered in my ear, 'I won't love you if you don't wear it . . . You should do it,'" Harington said.
Speaking of Harington, he recently talked to Digital Spy on the set of the BBC series "Gunpowder." Harington said that it was the right time to end "Game of Thrones" and he looked forward to having more freedom to choose projects after the show is done. He expressed an interest in taking on producer roles in the future, following the experience of co-producing "Gunpowder." The historical series about the Gunpowder Plot against King James I will premiere on BBC One on October 21st.
Watchers on the Wall reports that a German actor will be joining "Games of Thrones" season 8 as a new character. Marc Rissmann (BBC Two's "The Last Kingdom") has been cast as Harry Strickland, leader of a powerful mercenary force, the Golden Company. In season 7, Cersei Lannister sent Euron Greyjoy to recruit the Golden Company to fight for the crown. Rossmann is reportedly set to appear in two episodes.
Huffington Post confirms that a hidden Easter egg referring to Jon Snow's real name was deliberately planted by the showrunners. In season 3's "Kissed By Fire," Shireen Baratheon taught Davos Seaworth how to read the name "Aegon." Much later in the 7th season finale, Jon Snow's true name was revealed to be "Aegon Targaryen."
Liam Cunningham, who plays Davos, admitted that "Aegon" was inserted into the scene on purpose by showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. It's a clever Easter egg, not the least because "Egg" is the nickname of another Aegon Targaryen from the "Dunk and Egg" stories also set in the "Games of Thrones" world.
