Sorn Opens About Discrimination Faced By Foreign Artists In K-Entertainment Industry

Sorn, one of the members of CLC group, recently opened about the problems faced by foreign artists while working in Korea. The 20-year old CLC member took to a live stream, during her visit to Thailand, in which she expressed her views on royalty payments.

Although the video was in her native language fans translated a portion of it for the others. In the video Sorn says that she came to know about the discrimination when CLC's recent promotions came to an end. While Sorn and Elkie were waiting for their payment the other members of the group were paid for their work.

When Sorn inquired her company about the late payment, they straight away said that they have no control over it and it was because of certain laws which were passed back. Not just this, the singer also claimed that she was also paid six times less money than Korean member in the group.

The money that is paid to the artists is managed by a specific organization that protects the right of Korean artists. It is mandated for every artist to register to the program and have an account to receive their payments. In case of foreign artists, the money is divided into different types like Type A for music streaming, type B for public usages and so on. Since the law works between two countries, therefore, no help from agency or producers can be done.

However, she acknowledged that Cube Entertainment tried to help at the earliest but things were not in their hand. The Thailand crooner went on to question the law and also expressed her frustration about how to change it.

Sorn also talked to other foreign artists in the Korean industry like GOT7's BamBam and Black Pink's Lisa. On interacting with them she found that they also faced the same issue while getting their payment.
