'Ghost In The Shell' Movie Cast: Pilou Asbæk Confirmed; Actor To Also Star In 'Game Of Thrones'
Danish actor Pilou Asbæk has been included in the cast of upcoming "Ghost in the Shell" movie alongside Scarlett Johansson as reported by Variety.
Asbæk, 33, is the newest addition to the cast of "Ghost in the Shell" movie which will be released in 2017. The film is a live-action adaptation of the iconic Japanese seinen manga and anime series which was written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. It was first published in May 1989 under Kodansha.
Already an active actor in his native country of Denmark since 2008, Asbæk already won a few acting accolades in this career such as the Shooting Stars Award in 2011 Berlin International Film Festival.
Before he was announced as part of "Ghost in the Shell" movie cast, he was initially announced to appear in the 6th season of popular HBO series "Game of Thrones" which will premiere next year. He is set to play Balon's younger brother Euron Greyjoy as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
He was born Johan Philip Asbæk on March 2, 1982 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was active in drama productions in high school, and went on to graduate at Danish National School of Theater in 2008 and began performing actively ever since.
Apart from Asbæk, no other actors have been mentioned yet by DreamWorks, who partnered with Disney to produce the live-action film. The lead role will be played by Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson with the announcement released in January this year. The news has been received with intense criticism both from fans and movie critics.
As for the movie, the most recent update is that Jonathan Herman has been tapped to work on the script for the film. He is known for his screenplay for the hip-hop drama "Straight Outta Compton." Rupert Sanders, who previously directed "Snow White and the Huntsman," will direct the movie.
Production for "Ghost in the Shell" movie is expected to start in 2016 to make way for the March 31, 2017 premiere date.
