The Hunger Games

The post-apocalyptic society of Panem is not exactly an ideal place to spend holidays, but fans will get to experience the lives Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) for a day. Lionsgate will open a theme park that will include attractions based on some of the studio's biggest movie franchises like "The Hunger Games."

The park which will officially be called the Lionsgate Movie World will be a part of the Jeju Shinhwa World, an already existing resort area in South Korea. According to the press release (as published by Cinema Blend), the theme park will cover about 1.3 million square feet and will feature seven different movie areas. Aside from "The Hunger Games," the theme park will also feature attractions based on "The Twilight Saga," "Now You See Me," and the upcoming movie, "Robin Hood."

The upcoming theme park is not the first in the world to offer an attraction based on "The Hunger Games." Motiongate in Dubai offers a roller coaster that looks a lot like the bullet train that brought Katniss and Peeta from their home in District 12 to the location of the games in the Capitol.

Not much is known about the project, but it will likely contain more than one attraction based on the franchises. There are also likely entire replicas straight out of the movie sets.

"The Hunger Games" has been adapted into a big screen offering in 2012. The franchise collectively grossed over $2.9 billion worldwide after four movies. Based on the best-selling novels of the same title written by Suzanne Collins, the movie series followed Katniss, a teenager from a dystopian society chosen to represent her hometown in the Hunger Games, a televised event that forces each "tribute" to kill one another until only one remains. The movie also starred Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci and Philip Seymor Hoffman.
