Star Wars News: After Obi-Wan Kenobi, Lucasfilm Also Considering Yoda & Boba Fett Movies
The "Star Wars" franchise is more than just the Skywalker family. After the young Han Solo movie, Lucasfilm confirms that the long-rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is also in the works. Moreover, the studio is also interested in solo Boba Fett and Yoda spin-offs.
While two movies from the main trilogy are yet to be released in theaters, Disney is already looking into expanding the "Star Wars" franchise. Since the relaunch in 2015, Lucasfilm has already released one spin-off, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," which premiered last year. Two other anthologies were promised: one is the young Han Solo movie starring Alden Ehrenreich as the beloved space smuggler and the other is the recently-announced Obi-Wan Kenobi movie.
However, the aforementioned Han Solo and Obi-Wan Kenobi are not the only anthologies currently in development. According to The Hollywood Reporter. Lucasfilm is also looking into the possibility of making solo Boba Fett and Yoda spin-offs.
Not much is known about the projects but, both the Boba Fett and Yoda movies will likely be prequels. While the two characters have appeared in other parts of the franchise (namely, the prequel trilogy and animated series), Yoda and Boba Fett are dead in the current "Star Wars" timeline.
This is not the first time that Lucasfilm has been reported to be pursuing the upcoming spin-offs. To recall, a movie about the Mandalorian Bounty Hunter was rumored to be in development in a really long time. Screen Rant notes that at one point, Josh Trank was involved in the project. However, after the disaster that was "Fantastic Four," Lucasfilm parted ways with Tank. Meanwhile, rumors about a Yoda movie has been around since 2013.
As for the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, Oscar-nominated Stephen Daldry is reportedly in talks to direct. However, Ewan McGregor has said in the past that he is open to playing the character once again, but the actor is yet to sign up to star in the upcoming "Star Wars" spin-off. A source claims that because there is no script yet, no actor is attached to the project.
In the meantime, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" will land on the big screen on Dec. 15. The movie will star Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Billie Lourd, Benicio del Toro, Andy Serkis and Laura Dern.
