EXO Voted Most Deserving K-Pop Artist To Get MTV VMA Nominations; Xiumin Trends Worldwide After 'The War' Teasers Release
EXO deserves to get an MTV Vidio Music Awards nomination more than any other Korean act, according to a recent survey. The timing of this recognition seems to be perfect as SM Entertainment recently released new teasers for the K-pop male group's upcoming fourth album titled “The War” featuring Xiumin, the oldest member of the group.
K-pop fans voted EXO as as the K-Pop act most deserving of an VMA nomination in a poll conducted by Pop Crush. The online voters were given 30 South Korean artists to choose from, including big names such as G-Dragon, SHINee, BoA and even the top young groups Black Pink, TWICE, Seventeen, iKON, and GOT7.
After a week of voting, EXO emerged as the winner with more than 1.90 million votes. BTS took the second place after earning only 1.73 million votes.
The combined votes of EXO and BTS took more than 90 percent of the total votes placed on the said poll. Overwhelmed by EXO and BTS, GOT7 ranked a distant third place with 141,334 votes.
Artists all over the world are bound to gather at the 2017 MTV VMA, which will take place on Aug. 28 in Inglewood, California. With BTS taking the Top Social Artist at the recent Billboard Music Awards, more fans want to see more South Korean artists to be recognized at international music events and awards shows.
Meanwhile, SM Entertainment has released another set of new teasers for EXO’s upcoming comeback on their official website and official YouTube channel. The new teasers for “The War” and “Ko Ko Bop” featured Xiumin, who is also part of the sub-units EXO-M and EXO-CBX.
Sporting a dark and longer hairstyle, Xiumin looked dashing in the new teasers. Shortly after his teasers were released, he became the next EXO member to trend worldwide, according to Allkpop.
The first members to trend for EXO’s comeback were Park Chanyeol, Oh Sehun, and Suho. SM Entertainment has announced that “The War” will be fully released on July 18.
