Red Velvet’s Wendy Anorexic Like Oh My Girl’s JinE, Big Bang’s G-Dragon? [VIDEO]
The performance of Red Velvet on "Show! Champion" on July 12, Wednesday, became controversial and the reason has nothing to do with music. Fans noticed that one of the K-pop girl group's members, Son Seung Wan, who is professionally known as Wendy, was alarmingly skinny.
Wendy was wearing a skimpy shirt that exposed her stomach during the performance. Her rib bones were not able to escape from the eyes of the viewers, who took to social media to criticize the Red Velvet member.
Some netizens pointed out that Wendy looked better when she had more weight. This led to speculations that Wendy has eating disorders.
Red Velvet's agency S.M. Entertainment has yet to release a statement regarding the issue. Wendy and her bandmates Bae Joo Hyun, Kang Seul Gi, Park Soo Young and Kim Ye Rim, whose respective stage names are Irene, Seulgi, Joy and Yeri, are still mum about the controversy, as well.
This is not the first time a K-pop star was associated with a controversial weight loss. Oh My Girl member Shin Hye Hin, who is professionally known as JinE, confessed that she had been diagnosed with anorexia.
In two months, JinE lost almost 20 lbs and suffered adverse reactions. She told TV Report that she recklessly starved herself in preparation for the promotions of the Oh My Girl's second extended play "Closer," which was released in 2015.
Male K-pop fans are not free from weight loss criticisms, as well. Recently, some fans of Kwon Ji Yong, who is professionally known as G-Dragon, noticed how skinny he appeared.
On June 21, G-Dragon was among the K-pop stars who attended Chanel's exhibition Mademoiselle Prive in Seoul, All Kpop reported. Photos of him taken from the event caught the attention of the netizens not only because of his chic style but also because of his extremely thin figure.
G-Dragon is one of the five members of Big Bang. The other four members are Choi Seung Hyun, Dong Young Bae, Kang Dae Sung and Lee Seung Hyun, who are professionally known as T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri, respectively.
