Ideally, a good laptop is the kind that offers best of all worlds. Be it a longer battery life or faster processors. But experts will agree that in order to buy a product that packs quality material, one will probably have to compromise on other factors. These factors may be anything from the portability of the device or thermals. It's a whole new ball game if the users are specifically looking for dedicated GPUs in their laptops. This will require a whole lot of sacrifice on other factors.

Users who generally have gaming requirements are the kind who demand a good-quality GPU. An efficient GPU has the potential to ensure that quality flexibility remains consistent all throughout the gaming experience. The cards also offer improvement in other factors such as video editing, graphic design, augmented reality, virtual reality, neural networks, photography, engineering software and others. The fact that these sectors are becoming a greater part of an individual's life, the demand for better-quality GPUs will rise exponentially. Companies like NVIDIA are constantly working towards manufacturing gaming computers that are more portable. In order to reach this goal, NVIDIA along with several other laptop manufacturers are experimenting with the idea of an external GPU.

What is external GPU? Well, it can simply be understood as an external version of a graphic processing unit card that can be easily attached to one's computer through the means of a cable line. The prevailing external GPUs in the market at the moment make use of Thunderbolt 3 to get connected to laptops. External GPUs especially stand at an advantage because they are dedicated to nature. This is especially beneficial if one has to carry out any activity that is graphic-intensive. Users can make use of high-end graphic cards but still experience a slow 720p video gaming. However, with dedicated external GPUs, this problem is easily rectified.

What is interesting to note is that external GPUs have been around for a really long time. Initially, when this concept was introduced in the market, the fans received it well. However, manufacturers started thrusting the idea of eGPUs in the market, giving the former a backseat. Thankfully, external GPUs are back in the mainstream market and this time, they are here to stay. Good examples of external GPUs are Razer the Core, Alienware's Amplifier, and MSI makes one too.
