'Terra Formars Revenge' Release Date Announced, Live Action Film Confirmed!

The 50th issue for this year of Weekly Young Jump magazine - which was published by Shiueisha - has revealed that the release date of the all-new "Terra Formars Revenge" anime series will premiere on April 2016 in Japan according to a report from Anime News Network.

Along with the release date of "Terra Formars Revenge," Weekly Young Jump also revealed the new staff members who are working on the upcoming sequel to the anime adaptation of the Japanese action-horror and science fiction manga series which was written by Yuu Sasuga, with illustrations done by Kenichi Tachibana. The anime series premiered in September and ended in December last year with a total of 13 episodes.

New staff members include Michio Fukuda, who is now directing the upcoming anime sequel replacing Hiroshi Hamasaki. Character designs are provided by Cagetzu Aizawa and Atsushi Ikariya, while Naruhisa Arakawa is working on scriptwriting and series composition.

Coincidentally, the month where the release date of "Terra Formars Revenge" is also the release date of the upcoming live-action film adaptation which will be directed by Miike Takashi. The official movie website released a 50-second teaser which introduces its main cast as reported by Crunchyroll.

The live-action movie will be based on the Bugs 2 arc of the manga, and the cast and crew already started shooting last August in the European country of Iceland which will be expected to finish by February next year. The movie will premiere in Japan on April 29, 2016 under Warner Brothers Japan, who also distributed live action movie adaptations of "Death Note" and "Rurouni Kenshin."

The "Terra Formars" manga was first published in January 2011, being serialized at Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine up to present day. Viz Media acquired licensing rights to release the English version in US, with the first volume released in July last year. It soon followed five manga spin-offs, an original animation video (OVA) and a TV anime adaptation prior to the live-action film project.
