The PlayStation 4 is still very much active and ranking their way in the console throne. However, it will not stop Sony from releasing the PlayStation 5 as Microsoft challenging their legacy with the latest Xbox One X.

PS5 Release Date Leaked Once Again

According to Redmound Pie, an analyst, Michael Pachter, recently suggested that the Nintendo Switch will outsell the competitors this year. However, he was back in the news after making some comments about the PlayStation 5 and whether or not it will constitute a "half-step" evolution over the current PS4 and PS4 Pro-class of devices.

Meanwhile, PlayStation America CEO Shawn Layden has gone on record, claiming that his company will launch the PlayStation 5 in 2019 or 2020. Furthermore, this will confirm that it will be a huge innovation over the current hardware rather than the half-step taken by the PS4 Pro over the original PS4.

How Powerful Will The PlayStation 5 Be?

Without any official information on its specs, no one can fully assess what the PlayStation 5 will look like from a hardware perspective or how powerful it could be. However, all we can do is take a look at the competition, and see what Sony will need to do to compete.

As for the Xbox One X, which has an eight-core 2.3 GHz CPU, paired with 12GB GDDR5 memory and a GPU sporting, 40 compute units operating at 1172MHz. In other words, this is a mid-range 2017 gaming PC but with lots of clever software and hardware tricks to squeeze maximum performance out of it.

As for the price, fans can hopefully find out exactly how much Microsoft's hardware costs at E3 2017. Still, early estimates predict around £450-550, which is pretty reasonable for the performance on offer.

PlayStation 5 Will Have Backward Compatible

GamingBolt recently had an interview with Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter and asked him about the successor to the PS4. Pachter said that the PS5 will be backward compatible with PS4 Pro, which also means that it will play base PS4 games.

"I think it will. So I think they will build a console that wills backward compatible with the PS4 Pro. So I think it will be perceived by the consumers to be a half step and I think Shawn is telling the truth when he says it's will be a fully fledged console," said Pachter.
