Produce 101's Meringue Segment Blasted By Netizens For Sexual Intent
A recent segment in "Produce 101" is drawing a barrage of criticism from netizens after viewers noticed the sexual intent behind the activity. Social media users are up in arms over the show's baking segment that seemed to simulate the act of masturbation.
According to a report by All Kpop, netizens were puzzled as to why the male trainees for "Produce 101" were tasked with baking a meringue all of a sudden for their segment called "Its Meringue Time. While the task seems innocent enough at first, netizens were scandalized by how it actually turned out on television.
Meringue is a dessert prepared through the vigorous beating of egg whites and sugar. However, viewers of "Produce 101" commented that meringue is also used as a sexual symbolism because it stimulates the man's upper body while in the act of self-gratification. The stickiness of the egg white also represents the male semen.
Netizens expressed disgust at the hidden sexual intent behind the segment and said that the show should not be doing this to the trainees. Some were originally shocked and concerned and said that the show should take care not to cause issues like this because there are minor trainees in the show.
It can be recalled that one of the producers of "Produce 101" initially sparked controversy by saying that the show was created to be a form of "healthy pornography." This statement was immediately brought to mind when they connected the segment to the alleged sexual intent.
This was not the first time that "Produce 101" has become embroiled in controversy. IN recent months, the show has been subject to much criticism for allegations of cheating, assault, and bullying. One male contestant was even dismissed from the show after a former girlfriend accused him of sexual harassment and for allegedly seducing minor female fans, Soompi reported.
