Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release Date, News: Upcoming Flagship Releasing This Month?

by Yanyan Bartolome / May 05, 2017 09:36 PM EDT
In the upcoming keynote event of Microsoft on May 23, several people are expecting for a launching of the Surface Pro 5.

Microsoft did not provide any update on the release of the Surface Pro 5, but several entities are already suggesting the tech giant to do so. According to several reports, Microsoft could launch the upcoming flagship device as early as this month, or fall this year.

The suggestion to release the Surface Pro 5 came from the perspective that the Redmond-based company lost a significant volume of sales for the first quarter this year. Reporting its earnings ending March 31, Microsoft lost around 26 percent of their revenues, CNBC reported.

The publication enumerated several reasons which led to Microsoft's sales drop. According to them, the company should have launched the Surface Pro 5 instead of the new Surface Book. The Surface Book introduced late last year was too expensive for users who would not invest too much for a device they intend for an everyday use. The device was more suitable for professionals who are willing to invest for something they can utilize in their respective fields.

The publication added that the Surface Pro, the laptop-tablet hybrid device of Microsoft, is the most interesting for the majority of users, considering it is cheaper than the Surface Book. Unfortunately, the tech giant did not release the Surface Pro 5 last year.

Earlier this week, Microsoft held a press conference where they announced two new products, the Windows 10 S and the Surface laptop. Though the Surface Pro 5 was not included in the discussion, some believe that the Redmond-based company may be unveiling it within the month, BGR reported.

During the conference, the company also announced that they will be holding a keynote event in Shanghai, China on May 23. Microsoft also teased they will be showing the world "what's next." With this revelation, the publication believes it will be the perfect time for the tech company to launch the high-anticipated Surface Pro 5.
