'Call of Duty: World War II' Update: Female Soldiers Included in Multiplayer Mode

by Yanyan Bartolome / May 02, 2017 11:39 AM EDT
'Call of Duty: WWII" releases on Nov. 3 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

"Call of Duty: World War II" includes a feature on its multiplayer mode that would allow players to play as a female soldier. The confirmation came from the Sledgehammer co-founder Michael Condrey himself via Twitter. While this may seem like a breakthrough, "Call of Duty" already featured female characters in their past games.

Condrey responded to a question in the social media platform when a follower asked if a female character is included in "Call of Duty." The Studio Boss responded positively to an inquiry by replying "Yes, for sure!"

The feature has been a trend on the current "Call of Duty" game line-ups so it is not really a surprise for fans. According to Game Spot, players initially take on the role of a male soldier once they start playing "World War II" but they have to play the female character at one point.

The initiative to create a playable female character in "Call of Duty: World War II" did not just come up now as the developers have already been trying to produce such feature. According to Infinity Ward, the character customization was a challenge in the past that was brought about by some technical limitations.

While many may rejoice in this confirmation, Forbes pointed out that being able to play a female character in the multiplayer mode does not make it as a big deal. The publication pointed out that the multiplayer mode is not story-driven, and the story of "Call of Duty: World War II" still revolves around the campaign mode.

"Call of Duty: World War II" releases on Nov. 3 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Placing of pre-orders will allow fans to experience the game's beta version prior launching. For more information about "Call of Duty: World War II," check out the video below.
