iPhone 8 Release Date, Specs, Updates: Apple's Flagship Not Having 'S' Version
The internet has been circulating speculations regarding the delay in the release of the iPhone 8 in 2017. But aside from this, rumors are rife that the upcoming flagship from Apple will not be having its own "S" version.
One potential reason why the iPhone 8 would not be receiving its "S" version is because of a simultaneous release of its three variants: the iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 Plus and its high-end version, the iPhone 8 Pro, Know Your Mobile reported. According to the publication, the Cupertino-based tech giant will be equipping the iPhone 8 Pro with the largest display Apple has ever put into a smartphone.
On the other hand, other rumors suggested that the iPhone 8's "S" version will not be happening since a lot of major hardware and software upgrades will be applied to it, removing the necessity of launching an "S" update. Just recently, leaked photos of an iPhone 8 with edge-to-edge display surfaced online. The photos also suggested that the upcoming Apple flagship will be shifting to OLED display, High Snobiety reported.
The publication added that the iPhone 8 will be adapting the old design from iPhone 4S with an all-glass body frame by Gorilla Glass. Aside from a massive upgrade in display and resolution, the iPhone 8 is also rumored to ditch its home button, introducing a smartphone with a larger screen-to-body ratio similar to the recently-launched Samsung Galaxy S8.
The upgrades do not end with these as the iPhone 8 is also expected to utilize the facial-recognition scanner using its front camera. Samsung already introduced this technology in the Galaxy S7, and Apple may be adapting it for the iPhone 8. However, none of these were really confirmed by the tech-giant.
