There is an ongoing hype that Intel is secretly working on a 32-core processor, but the company didn't clarify the rumors. With the recent threats from AMD Ryzen 7 and its siblings, Intel secretly launched gold and platinum server grade processors that are based on 28 cores and 56 threads. Although Intel Xeon processors are not as powerful as AMD's latest range which has 32C and 64 threads, but they are enough to grab the attention.

Intel Xeon gold and platinum processors are not the only two processors launched by the eminent chipmaker, but Intel has launched total 34 Skylakes SP processors that are only based on the latest Purely platform, as reported by German website Computerbase. Secretly launching gold and platinum server-grade processor is a good response from Intel to AMD. The newly launched Intel Xeon processors might act as a shield for the company to secure the position of top chip makers.

The new range of Intel Xeon processor includes Gold 5122, the fastest processor in the lineup which clocks at 3.6GHz and has cores ranging between 14 and 22. While the Platinum 8180 processor is quite lower than the gold one. It runs at 2.5GHZ and features cores ranging between 22 and 28. Both the newly launched devices are having a maximum power of 56 threads.

Furthermore, Intel Xeon processors feature the 38.5 megabytes of L3 cache. It also has a thermal design power of TDP rating of 205 watts. The two latest chips are offering six channel memory interface with a maximum of three memory modules for every channel. This becomes up to 18 memory modules in total.

The newly launched Intel Xeon processors offer 4 variations including Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. As reported by Wccftech, the platinum family has assigned 8000 series, Gold assigned with 5000 and 6000 series, Silver with 4000 series and Bronze with 3000 series. These Xeon processors will get back up to eight central processing unit sockets.
