Giant Smartphone War Of Specs: Samsung Galaxy S8 Vs Apple iPhone 8

Samsung has launched its new flagship the Galaxy S8 while Apple will unveil iPhone 8 in September, which makes the big smartphone war for 2017.

The head-to-head battle between Samsung Galaxy S8 and iPhone 8 is likely to be huge this year. There has been a long debate on smartphones’ processor scores, industrial design, camera, and display.

Processor and storage - Samsung Galaxy S8 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor and runs under Android Nougat 7.0 with Samsung UX on top. It has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 256GB with microSD support. Meanwhile, Apple iPhone 8 will feature A11 chip, which is expected to be both faster and more power efficient. iPhone 8 will run under iOS 11 and sports 3GB of RAM with 64GB and 256GB internal storage and it also expected to NAND flash memory from Samsung. 

Display and measurement - Samsung Galaxy S8 feature 5.8-inch Super AMOLED Display with 2960x1440 screen resolution. It measures 5.9 x 2.7 x 0.3 inches and weighs 5.5 ounces. Apple iPhone 8 will feature 4.7-inch Curved OLED display with 750 x 1334 screen resolution while the dimension is still unknown.

Camera and battery - Camera-wise, Samsung Galaxy S8 has 12MP rear lens of F/1.7 aperture with autofocus and optical image stabilization. For the front-facing camera, it offers 8MP of F/1.7 aperture with autofocus. The Galaxy S8 comes with a 3000mAh battery, claiming that it will last 13.6 days on standby and 33 hours of continuous use before recharging it. It supports fast-charging, wireless charging, and battery saving modes.

Meanwhile, Apple iPhone 8 will offer 12MP of rear camera with f/1.8 aperture. It has phase detection autofocus, OIS, and quad-LED (dual tone) flash. The rear camera is capable of geo-tagging, simultaneous 4K video and 8MP image recording, touch focus, face/smile detection, and HDR (photo/panorama). iPhone 8’s secondary camera is 7MP with f/2.2 aperture. It supports face detection, HDR, and panorama. There is still no detail yet about the capacity of its non-removable Li-Ion battery

Connectivity - Samsung Galaxy S8 includes connectivity such as Bluetooth 5.0 Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with dual band support GPS, Glonass, and USB Type-C. It has received IP68 rating for water and dust proof certification. For the sensors, it has iris scanner, fingerprint sensor, and heart rate sensor.

Apple iPhone 8 has connectivity including Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, hotspot,Bluetooth 4.2, A2DP, LE, GPS, Glonass, and USB 3.0. For the sensors, fingerprint scanner at the front, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, and barometer. It will also feature Apple Pay.

Virtual Assistant - Samsung' Galaxy S8 features brand-new virtual personal assistant called Bixby. Bixby offers all the features from a virtual assistant. It includes reminders, the ability to set the alarm clock and create events. Users can utilize their voice to accomplish tasks that would normally take multiple screen taps. It can also learn the manner of speaking of the user and will do a better job, delivering more accurate results.

Meanwhile, Apple iPhone 8 will still have Siri and it is consistently getting smarter and will get some updates this year. The Cupertino-based tech giant is reportedly working on enhancing Siri in time for the launch of the iPhone 8.
