Starbucks Unicorn Drink: Instagram Bait For Marketing Only?

Unicorn Frappuccino® Blended Crème

When Starbucks launched it Unicorn frappe, it was really a hit. Though, it's far from the signature color and taste of the shop's original Italian blend. Could it be the evolution of coffees? Or Could it just be a marketing strategy?

According to Mashable, the Starbucks new sweet and sour drink is actually a meme. The word supposedly applies to humorous things rapidly spread on the web. Hence, it can really be called a marketing bait.

"The look of the beverage was an important part of its creation," a Starbucks spokesperson said about the Unicorn frappe as noted by the report. "Our inspiration came from the fun, spirited and colorful unicorn-themed food and drinks that have been trending on social media, " it added.

Further, the Starbucks blue-and-pink concoction is just a limited-time offer. It's just actually part of the new social media marketing approach the coffee shop took. This will never really blend on the Italian-inspired menu after all.

Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and many other social media have long changed people's behavior today. This is also the new path many marketers are investing on. A restaurant doesn't even need to offer good food, it's notably all about visuals now.

In another report by Refinery29, Starbucks Unicorn frappe is also its topic. It's all about how the drink is a "Frap from hell."

The mythical Starbucks frappe is apparently so laborious that many baristas hate doing it. One of them even took his complaint about the social media. Most of the complaints were taken on Reddit and Twitter.

"I have never made so many Frappuccinos in my entire life," Starbucks barista Braden Burson on his Twitter video post. While Tina Lee another barista went on saying, "As a barista, just know that every time you ask me to make this, a part of me dies #unicornfrappuccino."
