Up until now, the official release date for "Star Citizen" has not been announced. Cloud Imperium Game only released a recent report stating the game is still under development.

"Star Citizen" started as a crowdfunded game in 2012 which was originally slated for a 2014 release. Amassing almost $6.2 million initially, the scheme has almost grown to as much as $145 million. But followers of the space simulation seemed to grow tired of the waiting game as its release date has been moved several times from 2014 to no specific date as of this moment.

Its developer, Cloud Imperium Games recently delivered a progress report containing the current standing of its development, PC Gamer reported. During the PC Gamer Weekender, several Cloud Imperium people talked to an audience saying they have been working hard on "Star Citizen" and "Squadron 42."

In a YouTube footage, they also announced the release of "Star Citizen" Online's latest update which is version 2.6.1. According to them, the new version fixes some issues and optimizes the gameplay. The new installment also gives players an enhanced version of the Great Super Hornet as well as new features like Mega Maps, among others.

During the discussion, a video of Chris Roberts was played saying "We are well on our way in making our dream a reality," pointing out that they have a supportive community of around 1.6 million. Roberts added that they are still in the phase of design and is seeking feedback, especially from its crowdfunding backers. He said they are soon releasing different modules to the "Star Citizen" community and they hope to get feedback in return to conduct improvements.

The Cloud Imperium Games COO added that those who already have a "Star Citizen" game package can already start playing with the modules like Arena Commander, Star Marine and the Persistent Universe which is the largest module among three.
