‘Blurred Lines’ Lawsuit: Robin Thicke Admits Being ‘High And Drunk’; Deposition Video Leaked!
Robin Thicke's deposition was released to the public earlier this month. In the footage, the "Blurred Lines" singer repeatedly admitted he was not sober for most of 2013, according to The Guardian.
"With all due respect, I was high and drunk in every time I did an interview last year", said Thicke in the video posted by Hollywood Reporter. The star was speaking to the Gaye family's attorney.
Thicke confirmed he was on Vicodin and under the influence of alcohol during an interview played from VH1, and the Oprah show.
US District Judge John A. Kronstadt kept the 2014 footage under wraps to avoid impact on jurors' decision.
Marvin Gaye's family accused Robin Thicke and co-writer Pharrell Williams of plagiarism in August 2013; saying Blurred Lines copied Gaye's 1977 hit Got To Give It Up.
Fast forward to this year, Thicke and Williams lost the suit; and Gaye's heirs were awarded $7.4 million; which later cut to $5.3 million and is being appealed, cited by Sky News.
"While we respect the judicial process, we are extremely disappointed in the ruling made today, which sets a horrible precedent for music and creativity going forward," Williams, Thicke and T.I. said in a joint statement.
"Blurred Lines' was created from the heart and minds of Pharrell, Robin and T.I. and not taken from anyone or anywhere else. We are reviewing the decision, considering our options and you will hear more from us soon about this matter."
Marvin Gaye's children claim that the mess could have been avoided if Thicke and Williams approached the family before releasing the song, cited by Rolling Stone.
"Like most artists, they could have licensed and secured the song for appropriate usage," the family stated. "This did not happen. We would have welcomed a conversation with them before the release of their work. This also did not happen."
Following the court's decision, all sales of Blurred Lines has come to a full stop.
