Sony has decided to commercialize its VR headsets after underwhelming the expectations of the consumer market. The company has planned to expand the marketing of its PlayStation VR headset to commercial customers including entertainment facilities in Japan. The technology has taken slower than expected pace to reach the consumer market.

According to Wall Street Journal, Sony's video game has established a location-based entertainment unit that is linked with the leading commercial VR charge. The reports even included that Sony was searching for partners in various industries. This move suggests that the company was having trouble sustaining the immediate impact of PSVR after the initial launch buzz has worn off.

Although Sony is focusing on finding partners in Japan, it is targeting video game arcades and theme park for its VR headsets. Besides, it is also focusing on raising awareness and giving video game players an opportunity to go hands-on with the nascent tech.

The company is following the footstep of Payday 2 developer Starbreeze, which decided to open a VR arcade in Los Angeles to offer unmatched VR experience to the people. In past years, Sony was not so successful in selling PlayStation VR headsets. But now as the trend of VR is increasing, the company has sold nearly 915,000 PlayStation VR headsets till Feb. 2017.

This amazing sale of PlayStation VR headsets has put the company on track to meet its internal target of selling 1 million devices in six months. Sony's Interactive Entertainment Global CEO, Andrew House pleased with the numbers and pretty excited for the consumer's appetite for VR headsets.

The CEO even exclaimed his excitement to New York Times by saying, "you literally have people lining up outside stores when they know the stock is being replenished." Still, he was afraid of getting hyped up and certain protest against the company.
