Xbox One update

Effective last March 29, Microsoft Xbox emulators are officially banned from the Xbox store and Windows 10 store. The new policy includes delisting any products that are already in the store and emulator sellers who plan to list their product in the future. This means fans of “Super Mario 64” can no longer play the game from Xbox One.

According to Gamerant, all the emulator listing from Microsoft and Xbox store have already been delisted. The only users not yet affected by the new policy are Windows 10 owners who haven’t updated the Creators Edition patch. But as soon as they have downloaded and installed it, they too will no longer have access to the emulators.

These changes are said to affect more Windows 10 users than Xbox One. Based on the data collected, there are more emulator users in Windows 10 compared to Xbox One. Actually Xbox One has already been free from it since 2013 except Win64e10 emulator. This particular emulator allows users to play Nintendo 64 games including “Super Mario 64” on their Xbox One. Although the emulator was delisted from the Xbox store soon after it was up.

Their decision to ban the Nintendo 64 game emulator was quickly followed by the complete delisting of all emulators in all of their stores according to The Verge. This isn’t surprising because the last thing that Microsoft want is to have emulators available through their digital stores. Of course, not everyone was happy with the news, especially avid fans of Nintendo 64 games. But users must understand that allowing this to happen can create legal troubles for Microsoft in the future.

It wouldn’t be surprising either if other companies ban emulators too from their online stores. Although there are still other ways for users to download emulators, at least it wouldn’t be as easy as downloading it from legit online stores like Microsoft and Xbox One.
