Verizon Merging Yahoo & AOL Into Oath; Merissa Mayer Or Tim Armstrong To Be Retained As CEO?
Verizon bought Yahoo's core internet business and it seems that a new life for Yahoo has just begun. Now, the AOL CEO, Tim Armstrong has shared the news that Verizon is combining Yahoo and AOL into a new venture called Oath. The news is official and it seems that the company has a new plan for Yahoo.
Yahoo was an internet giant back in 1994, but it couldn't able to survive tough competition offered by Google and Facebook. The Yahoo CEO, Merissa Mayer even failed to protect the company from hacking and lost the company as well as her cash bonus for the last year. But with the recent tweet, it seems that it is a new day for Yahoo as its parenting company is merging AOL and Yahoo altogether.
The sole goal behind this merge is increasing the strength, power, and profit. The tweet shared by Tim Armstrong reads "Billion+ Consumers, 20+ Brands, Unstoppable Team. #TakeTheOath. Summer 2017." With this tweet, it is confirmed that the next generation of internet users will check their Oath mail or may wonder through the Oath news in future. When contacted by the USA Today, Tim Armstrong has stated that Oath would be the most disruptive brand companies in digital.
On the other hand, Yahoo is yet to comment on the possibility of being rebranded as Oath, as reported by The Verge. The reports further added that the company has issued as short statement prior to Armstrong's tweet, "In the In the summer of 2017, you can bet we will be launching one of the most disruptive brand companies in digital." This even clarifies that Oath will be launched in summer which is within next few months.
Last year, Yahoo has damaged security breaches which result into the hacking of one billion accounts. For which the CEO has compensated her cash bonus. Now with the Oath, it seems that the company might provide extra security for the accounts. It is still unclear who will be the CEO of the newly merge Oath?
