Moon Jae-in Wins DPK Nomination For May 9 Presidential Election

The former leader of the Democratic Party of Korea or the DPK, Moon-Jae-in won and was elected as the candidate of the party in preparation for the presidential election to be held on May 9. Last Monday, Moon won all the four primary elections with a large margin.

Moon Jae-in won the primaries due to his 60.4 percent of votes. Because of this, he was able to defeat Mayor Lee Jae-myung and An Hee-jung who just managed to gain 22 percent and 17.3 percent votes respectively. In all the primaries, he won garnering 60.4 percent of votes while An garnered 21.5 percent and Lee with 21.2 percent.

Because of his success in the primaries election, Moon Jae-in will face Hong Joon-pyo of the Liberty Korea Party, the minor Justice Party's Sim Sang-jung, and the conservative Bareun Party's Yoo Seong-min as Korean voters will determine Park Geun-hye's successor. Apart from them, Ahn Cheol-soo of the People's Party will also join the said May 9 presidential race.

In his acceptable speech right after his victory, Moon offered his gratitude to everyone and those who elected him in the said primary election. Further, he also extended his hopes that his success will continue towards the May 9 presidential election as reported by Korea Times. With this, the DPK candidate also pledged some important things to boost the economy and social statues of Korea. he is after the improvement of the country's staggering economy, strong policies for the national security, then last but the most essential is to get rid of injustice, corruption, and irregularities. It can be recalled that the country struggled because of the recent corruption scandal that led to the impeachment of Park Geun-hye.

In the latest survey prior to the election, Moon emerged as the top favorite with 43 percent support then by Ahn with 22.7 percent, Hong with 10.2 while Yoo and Sim each garnered 3.9 percent.

Ever since Korea suffered the turmoil of the political corruption scandal, Moon has been observed as the favorite among the contenders. And last 2012 presidential election, he went with a tight fight with Park Geun-hye which made him think that so far, he is the most prepared and eligible among the presidential contenders. During the past weeks, Business Insider reported that Moon has been the top favorite who will succeed Former President Park Geun-hye.

With his increasing popularity in teh surveys as well as in the polls, Moon Jae-in is making the Koreans know about his goal if ever elected president. it has been the long-time wish of the DPK candidate to change how politics operates the country, thus, putting an end to the conservative government which has been running the country for decades already.
