AMD Ryzen 16-Core, 12-Core Variants To Have Multiple Chip Module Design, Intel HEDT Chips In Danger?

AMD is working on a powerful Ryzen processor in response with the Intel HEDT.

AMD is currently working on a 2 variant Ryzen Processors that will have multiple chips. Powerful processors that can compete with the Intel's HEDT or High Ends Desktop segment.

These new AMD Ryzen processors are a 12-core and a 16-core multi-chip processors. These both are larger than its current socket AM4 Summit Ridge, desktop processors, but smaller in core-count than its 32-core Naples enterprise processors.

According to Auto World News report, it was previously revealed that both 16-core and 12-core AMD Ryzen processor chips will use a socket with 4,000 pins. It is twice the amount of cores as well as 58 PCIe lanes.

The AMD Ryzen 16-core variant is consisting of two 8-core CPUs stitched together while the 12-core variant will be two 6-core CPUs. The limit of these processors' performance is still unknown, however, in a test conducted recently revealed that the 12-core variant is fare against competitors and it is safe to say that it will do well against high-end models.

Reports also claim that the chips include a support for a quad-channel DDR4 memory, which is the current most efficient and fastest memory. With this technology, AMD could face Intel directly at the top of the computer competition.

AMD Ryzen chips' frequencies will not increase along with the clock speeds as the Tech Power Up said that the increase in core count isn't coming with a decrease in clock speeds. The 16-core model will have 180W TDP, while the 12-core variant will have 140W TDP, which was noted to have a single disabled core per CCX.

The competition between AMD and Intel is getting more intense. The AMD Ryzen new processors are indeed monstrous and powerful, however, we can't conclude in advance how this completion works after the Ryzen released to the market. These new processors will formally unveil at Computex in Taipei in June and the launch will then follow shortly after.
