Runkeeper recent iOS update lets the users get the best from the app with the use of Apple Watch. The company released an update "you can run without your phone and still track with Runkeeper", according to Dispatch Times.

The fitness-tracking app on the new Apple Watch, allows users to keep track of their running distance, the time allocated during the activity, their pace and the pulse rate. Users can now run freely without their phone and using the Apple Watch alone instead, reads via Rapid News Network.

One of its features is the "post-run music analytics" that shows which music you run faster to. This works with iTunes, Spotify and Runkeeper DJ. Users can now pause the runs with a swipe and the ability to change your workout activity through the Watch. The app gathers fitness data from the watch since it uses the Apple's HealthKit, reported on Hue Wire.

The app is developed for runners that are clinging to smartphones for a while. The Apple Watch is a combination of M8 motion coprocessor and Wi-Fi. Runkeeper developers strongly suggest that users should use the app with both devices several times before using it without the phone. "It is pretty accurate, and even more so if you pair with phone a few times on runs up front to calibrate." Jacobs added on Tech Crunch.

There is no built-in GPS for the Apple Watch so there's no way that the Runkeeper can show a map of your run on the activity summary. This might be a downfall for some of the app users since one of the app's feature is the ability to monitor where you ran.

"We aren't currently mapping routes, the current version only includes distance travelled," Runkeeper's CEO Jason Jacobs explained. The app will only work with watchOS 2, users that have watchOS 1 should update their Apple Watch to enjoy the new version of the app, according to Tech Crunch
