The 3D platformer "Yooka-Laylee" which was created by Playtonic Games is now nearing its April 11 launch and its set to create a revival of the video game platform genre. The game project was invested with over $3 million during its campaign at Kickstarter and there's pressure to deliver a game that will equal the N64 classic "Banjo-Kazooie" series.

Playtonic Games, which was behind the development of "Yooka-Laylee" is considered to be a fresh independent studio that has employed some familiar names in the video game industry. Ex-Rare employees make up the bulk of the company's talent pool and the new game project is considered to be a 3D platformer "Rare-vival". In an interview with Gamespot, Communications Director Andy Robinson said that one of the key features of the game is the addition of expandable worlds that will appeal to a diverse audience.

One of the main strengths of "Yooka-Laylee" is to put plenty of player choices into the mix which would empower gamers to make original decisions when taking different paths in the video game. Some players can decide to expand the first world and make it bigger to collect plenty of items. While others can choose to instantly visit a second world to open up a new quest and level up their character.

When compared to an N64 game, "Yooka-Laylee" runs a lot smoother thanks to its design of 60 frames per second. The worlds featured in the game are also reminiscent of other platform games from the N64 era which showcases a very colorful art style and the characters look like amazing clay figures found at a children's toy box, as stated in PC Gamer. The game is also filled to the brim with all kinds of collectibles that can be found in different environments like the pagies that are scraps of magic books that will help players unlock new game worlds.
