Samsung Flexible Phones Release Date: Everything We Know So Far Prior December Launch
Samsung enthusiasts are expecting to see the release of two flexible phones this year. Rumors began when Samsung filed a patent for a device with a hinged flexible screen on June 9, 2015. With two years underway, the company is rumored to launch the Galaxy Note 8 with a bendable display.
Flexi-Phone, Not Galaxy S?
Samsung previously got patent number US 9,557,771 B2 for a flexi-phone that Samsung fans are expecting to release this year, Forbes reported. However, it has been noted that the new Samsung innovation may not bear the iconic Galaxy S name. Leaked reports claim that Samsung may launch a cosmetic compact-like design.
Leaked reports were also noted to coincide with the device feature patented by Samsung. Moreover, the patent report also revealed that the upcoming device will come with a hinge to help the device unfold itself. Previous reports also revealed that the Samsung technology is ripe for harvest pointing to the Note 8 as the device advancement.
A prototype for the flexible screen technology was also unveiled back in 2013. It is expected that the Note 8 would be valued higher than the usual $800 price if the feature is confirmed with it. Samsung is yet to confirm which handset would launch with the new technology.
Rumored Release Date Comes Before Christmas
In other news, the Samsung innovation may release in the third quarter of 2017, Phone Arena reported. It should also be noted that both LG and Samsung may be launching the foldable devices. In addition, the device is also believed to have two screens.
Samsung may opt to introduce the device with a screen that may fold outward. Hence, the smartphone may turn into a tablet and vice versa. On the other hand, the screens on LG's device are rumored to fold inside. It should be noted that LG received its patent for a foldable smartphone of its own just last month.
