EXO Wins Five Awards; Sets Record As The First Group To Win Three Daesangs At '2016 MelOn Music Awards'
EXO continues to take everyone by storm as they dominated the "2016 MelOn Music Awards." The phenomenal K-pop group also sets record as the first to win three "Daesangs" in the said event.
On November 19, the highly anticipated "2016 MelOn Music Awards" finally revealed its winners at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea. A total of 23 different awards under four categories were given to outstanding artists for this year.
EXO was able to bag the Daesang for the evening, the "Artist Of The Year" award. This marks the third time EXO won the event's Daesang. Back in 2013, the group nabbed the "Song Of The Year Award" for their digital single "Growl." EXO also grabbed the "Album Of The Year" award in 2015 for their album "EXODUS." The group's current feat is a big milestone for their career as they have become the first group to win the big three Daesangs at "MelOn Music Awards."
Aside from the said Daesang, EXO also secured four more awards under their belt including Top 10, Netizen Choice, Dance (Male), and Kakao Hot Star awards.
The "MelOn Music Awards" is already in its 8th year and is considered as one of the big four music awards ceremonies in the country. Presented by Kakao, the said event aims to honor various K-pop artists and their achievements based on data gathered by MelOn, one of Korea's largest online music store.
The boys of EXO were quite emotional as they expressed gratitude towards their unwavering fans particularly the EXO-L. Meanwhile, Suho revealed that he was moved by Sechs Kies' performance during the event. Sechs Kies is considered to be the first generation idol group and recently reunited after 16 long years. Suho also expressed his desire for EXO to be like Sechs Kies who just won the "Hall Of Fame Award" in the "2016 MelOn Music Awards."
