Is MAMAMOO's Solar a North Korean Defector?

On the September 28th episode of MBC's "Radio Star," girl-crush worthy singers appeared as guests and one of them was MAMAMOO's Solar.

Entertainment website allkpop reported that during the show, the MC's showed an old picture of Solar from her school days. They then asked the idol if the rumor that she was a defector from North Korea was true. To this, Solar explained, "That rumor came about because there are almost no past pictures of me." She also explained that because there are less past photos of her, it seemed like she came out of nowhere with a new identity.

The MAMAMOO leader then stated that she gets criticisms from the netizens once a picture of her from the past comes out. She said, "Whenever an old picture did come out, I got so many criticisms. They would ask where and how much plastic surgery I got."

Seo In Young, another guest on the show responded to Solar saying, "You did plastic surgery, like on your eyes and nose." This comment made everyone burst out in laughter.

MC Kim Gu Ra then went back to the topic of Solar being a North Korean defector by commenting, "I thought the rumor came out because your name was interesting. Kim Yong Sun (Solar's real name) is extremely unique."

In other news, Solar is currently "married" to singer Eric Nam in the TV show "We Got Married." On the recent episode of the show, the couple went on an igloo date together. They went to a snowy theme park and sang Frozen's "Let It Go." Nam and Solar then gave each other Eskimo kisses inside an igloo.

In her solo interview during the show, Solar said, "I think we got closer after the couples competition." Eric Nam, on the other hand, stated, "It was the first time she showed me affection. It made me think, 'She's comfortable with me now.'"
