US Ambassador Insulted by Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte

President Rodrigo Duterte called the U.S. ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg as a "gay son of a bitch" in one of his speech prompting the US diplomats to talk about the issue with their Filipino counterparts in Washington.

President Duterte was recently elected as the sixteenth president of the Philippines. He had his inauguration last June 30, 2016 at the Rizal Ceremonial Hall of  Malacañang Palace in Manila. 

Duterte delivered his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) last July 25, 2016. He was often called as the Donald Trump of the Philippines because of his sharp tongue and rough personality. 

John Kerry, the Recounting Secretary of State visited the Philippines. PH president, speaking Tagalog, said that he was feuding with US Ambassador Philip Goldberg.

"I was with (incoming defense chief General) Delfin Lorenzana. We talked to Kerry, he was actually OK because I had a fight with his ambassador. I told him: 'your ambassador is a gay son of a bitch. I was annoyed at him, for interfering in the elections, giving statements here and there. He wasn't supposed to do that", Duterte said.

However, Duterte suggested that he offend Kerry to get more aid and called him "crazy". 

"Kerry came here, we had a meal, and he left me and Delfin $33 million. I said, OK, maybe we should offend them more, so this crazy will just give more money, just to make peace. So, it's all about the money," said by the PH president Duterte.

On August 5, the commentaries of President Duterte arrived as he addressed military troops of the Armed Forces Central Command Headquarters of the Philippines.

The unfolding drama between Goldberg and Duterte may not be easily forgotten. 

Elizabeth Trudeau, the US State Department spokeswoman said that they summoned the Filipino chargé d'affaires to clarify and explain the PH president's remarks.

Since November 2013, Goldberg has been the US ambassador to the Philippines.
