New Star Shines in Park Chan-wook Film Invited to Cannes
Park Chan-wook's latest film, "The Handmaiden," features a new star, Kim Tae-ri. The film will be competing in the Cannes Film Festival beginning next week.
Actress Kim Tae-ri was chosen among 1500 actresses who auditioned for a role in the film. Director Park says that choosing Kim for the role was an easy choice. According to an article on Chosun, Kim reminded Park of his first meeting with Kang Hye-jung from his film "Oldboy."
Park added that he was most impressed by Kim's composure and ability to challenge herself outside of her comfort zone.
"The Handmaiden" is a film based on a British novel entitled "Fingersmith" by Sarah Waters. Park's version of the story is set in Korea and Japan in the 1930's.
