‘Gears Of War 2’ Free To Download This Month Via Xbox Live Games With Gold Ahead Of ‘Gears Of War 4’ Release
This week, "Gears of War 2" joined February's list of free games downloadable via Xbox Live Games with Gold, according to Express.
The news comes as rumors of the PC release of "Gears of War 4" were revealed in a post by Gotta Be Mobile.
According to the site, "Gears of War 4," along with "Forza Horizon 3" were making their way to Xbox Live on Windows despite earlier reports claiming they would be exclusively available to Xbox One.
"WPDang, a Chinese website that's offered leaks and accurate information about Microsoft's plans before, says that sources have confirmed to it that both games will come to PCs running Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system," Gotta Be Mobile reported.
The site also mentioned rumors about the likelihood of Microsoft being the main download channel of PC games, aside from its free download portal.
"Gears of War 2," along with "Styx: Master of Shadows" were the new free games for this February's Xbox Live Games with Gold switchover. They replaced "Zheros" (Xbox One) and "Sacred Citadel" (Xbox 360), Express said.
Other games for the February lineup include "Hand of Fate."
Game Spot said that "Hand of Fate" will be available throughout the month.
"Styx: Master of Shadows" is another game that will also run for free under Xbox Live Games with Gold until March 15.
Meanwhile, Microsoft said that the free games would still form part of Xbox One's program for the games' backward compatibility, according to Express.
"Gears of War 2" received universal acclaim from review sites like Metacritic and Game Spot in earlier reviews.
Metacritic scored the game 93, based on reviews from 90 critics. Game Spot similarly praised the game for its superior graphics and epic gameplay.
"Gears of War 2 is a superior shooter that no action fan will want to miss out on," the Game Spot review said.
According to Inquisitr.com, "Gears of War 2" was originally worth $19.99, with the game originally released in 2008.
