'Scandal' Season 5 Spoilers: New Recurring Cast Is Mellie's Challenger For The Presidency?
Previous spoilers for "Scandal" season 5 hinted of interesting opponents for Bellamy Young's character in her quest to take over the White House.
And it looks like more information are being revealed as to their identities.
"Ricardo Chavira has landed a recurring role on Scandal," Entertainment Weekly reported. "The Desperate Housewives alum is set to join the cast in the second episode back from the winter hiatus, though details on his role are being kept under wraps,"
EW then further speculated that Chavira's role is someone related to Young's spoilers for "Scandal" season 5 a week ago.
"With Mellie campaigning to become the next president, we'll soon get to meet her challengers on both the Republican and Democratic side," Entertainment Weekly wrote.
"It's an amazing field of candidates," Young said. "I cannot wait for everybody to see some new and old faces. Some folks will be a surprise, some folks will be folks you know very, very well, and some folks you may not have seen in a minute. It's good and juicy."
Aside from "Desperate Housewives," Chavira also appeared in "Burn Notice" and "Castle."
In earlier "Scandal" season 5 spoilers, it was revealed that there will be a six-month time jump when the show returns.
"Everybody has evolved into the next phase of their lives," Tony Goldwyn, who plays President Fitz Grant, said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "Fitz is unfortunately alone without Mellie [Bellamy Young], without Olivia, and sort of without Cyrus [Jeff Perry] in the sense that the trust between Cyrus and Fitz is broken.
Goldwyn went on to add, "Cyrus is still working for him, but it's a troubled situation, so Abby [Darby Stanchfield] is taking up that slack in terms of who he leans on, but Fitz is very much alone - the guy alone on the top of the hill."
"Scandal" season 5 returns on Feb. 11 for episode called "It's Hard Out Here for a General." Watch out for more spoilers here ahead of the air date.
