It's almost confirmed now - GoPro Hero 5 is going to hit the store shelves "later this year."

The release date confirmation came from none other than GoPro CEO Nick Woodman himself.

While he did not specify a date, it is likely that the device will be available from October 2016.

With that, all rumors and speculations surrounding the GoPro Hero 5 release date will probably die out - at least for the next few weeks.

Woodman also hinted at some corrective measures aimed at rescuing the company from the slippery slope it is currently in.

2015 was indeed quite a challenging year for GoPro. Following the largely impressive sales figure of the Hero4 Session, the company's share prices went downhill pretty rapidly.

Also, a swelling product line in the ensuing period confused many consumers, causing more worries for GoPro management.

In a desperate attempt to turn things for the better, the company has now announced that it is once again pruning back its camera range to only three models. The three models will include The Hero4 Session, Silver and Black.

Woodman also stated that GoPro plans to make Hero5 "the most connected and convenient GoPro ever made."

Apart from that, the entry-level Hero line will be officially discontinued from April 2016.

According to an Ecumenical News report, the Hero5 will come equipped with Ultra HD 8K video format which will enable the device to capture videos in 8K resolution. If true, that will be twice as high as the maximum resolution supported by GoPro Hero4.

Other key GoPro Hero5 specs might include, 60 frames per second recording (again, twice as compared to the 30 fps capability of the Hero4), a longer battery life (2,800 mAH battery), as well as Bluetooth 4.0 which will enable image sharing a lot faster.

If word on the street is to be believed, Hero5 could set you back $450 to $550 when the release date arrives.
