Amy Schumer's ‘Classmates’ Not Surprised With Joke-Stealing? Marc Maron Stands Up For Comedienne

Amy Schumer stand up jokes issue

Amy Schumer rose to fame for her stand up jokes and is arguably one of the most talented comediennes in Hollywood today. But the "Trainwreck" star's reputation was marred with controversy after a group of comedians (Tammy Pescatelli and Wendy Liebman, in particular) accused her of stealing their jokes.

A few days after, however, the comedians apologized to the star and cited "parallel thinking" as the possible reason why lots of their jokes sounded similar to Amy Schumer's stand up bits, including the "Sleep Gym" joke and "Slap Chef" joke on "Inside Amy Schumer."

The issue was mocked in Paste Magazine, in an article entitled "Amy Schumer Stole Everything."

The satire article (allegedly written by Amy Schumer's "cool high school classmates") talked about ridiculous things that the "Trainwreck" star "stole" from them like "Being too feminist/ not feminist enough (stolen from Alanis Morissette)" and "Being too fat/ not fat enough to be funny (stolen from American Ferrera)."

But the most on-point topic in the article was Amy Schumer "getting written about by two nobodies (stolen from Richard M. Nixon)," which sounded like a diss to the two comedians who accused her of stealing their stand up jokes.

"We can't tell you how many nobodies have strong opinions about Amy," Paste Magazine mocked Amy Schumer's critics. "Anyway, the king of getting written about by two nobodies was none other than President Puppyjowls himself, Richard Nixon. He's also the reason [why we] call scandals "gates" now."

The website added: "And while Amy Schumer was born in the '80s so we can't PROVE she stole this, we do have tapes of her grumbling about her Jewish dad, so we're pretty sure she's a fan."

Meanwhile, comedian Marc Maron defended the "Trainwreck" star over the joke-stealing issue during his WTF podcast last Monday.

"What is happening with Amy, it has nothing to do with justice and nothing to do with comedy," Maron said. "This is about hate. It's about anger. It's about women-bashing. And it's this contingent of culture ... Amy Schumer is just a fucking comic. Amy is an entertainer. And she's the real deal whether you like her jokes or not."
