Microsoft has announced a configuration update for all devices enrolled in the Windows Insider Program.
According to reports, the new Windows 10 update has been planned with the vision to soon roll out a cumulative update for all Windows phones.
Earlier today, Gabe Aul, head of Microsoft's Windows Insider program, tweeted that the new update won't bring any major changes. Instead, it will be aimed at preparing devices that are currently registered to the fast ring for the forthcoming cumulative updates.
"Today we are rolling out a Configuration Update to the Windows 10 Mobile Insider devices in the Fast ring," Au explained. "This update prepares devices to receive the next cumulative updates, as well as improvements to the client-side update experience. There are no noticeable changes immediately after installing this Configuration Update."
However, Aul did not specify when Microsoft plans to roll out the cumulative updates. But if word on the streets is to be believed, they will probably land sometime next week.
As per rumors, the Redmond, Washington-based software giant will release an update for all Windows Phone 10 devices. So, with that taken into consideration, it is likely that the update Microsoft plans to release to insider handsets could also be used to evaluate the overall update experience for other devices too.
Earlier, it was speculated that Windows 10 Mobile would hit store shelves in Dec 2015. But later, the company postponed the release till January.
However, even that deadline was missed due to some unknown issue and now the new target seems to be early February.
Despite the fact that many users are losing patience because of the endless delays with the new builds and updates, Microsoft is yet to confirm a release date for Windows 10 Mobile. But now it seems like the company can't afford any further postpone.
Microsoft recently released financial results for the second quarter of fiscal 2016 that shows a sharp 49 percent decline in Windows Phone revenue.
