Exploding Kittens App Tops iOS Downloads In Less Than 24 Hours! Android Version Coming Soon?

Merely 24 hours into its launch on Apple iTunes App Store, the Exploding Kittens had already registered a rather remarkable debut that few other mobile games could dream of.

It kaboomed its way to the top of the App Store's paid app category and refused to let go of the prestigious position with the number of downloads surpassing new milestones every hour - literally!

The achievement is undoubtedly remarkable, but it's certainly not the first time the game grabbed headlines by setting the bar higher for future game developers.

Earlier last year, Exploding Kittens became one of Kistarter's most-funded projects ever by generating a whopping $8.8 million in pledges from more than 219,000 contributors worldwide. Not just that, it also broke the record for the project with the highest number of individual donors.

Exploding Kittens is originally the brainchild of former Microsoft employees Elan Lee and Shane Small.

The two teamed up with The Oatmeal's creator Mathew Inman to create what is being referred to as one of the most addictive games of recent times - something that puts it in the same league as Angry Birds, Temple Run, and a select few mobile games with phenomenal success.

The game first came into the limelight almost a year ago when it was introduced to the world as the new "Cards Against Humanity." The creators introduced it as a unique, "kitty-powered version of the Russian Roulette".

The core concept of the gameplay is relatively simple. The players take turn drawing cards and the process continues until someone pulls an exploding kitten card and loses.

But of course, there's much more to it. For example, players are given the power to use various special cards (such as catnip sandwiches, belly rubs and so on)for quickly defusing an exploding kitten. They can also relocate the kittens, attack other players and much more.

As of now, the game is available to iOS users only. Unfortunately, reports have yet to provide further statement on an exact date for Exploding Kittens' Android release as it is still under development.

However, judging by the phenomenal success the game has enjoyed so far on the App Store, it's hardly a matter of speculation that the developers would soon push it to Android as well.
