Who Is The Big Bad Of ‘Thor: Ragnarok?’ Cate Blanchett To Play The Ultimate Villain?
It's still a long time coming for "Thor: Ragnarok," which is set to be released in theaters on Nov. 3, 2017. While fans patiently wait, many spoilers have come to light including the casting of Cate Blanchett as the ultimate villain.
According to multiple reports, the big bad of the latest "Thor" movie will be Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death. Hela is a Marvel comic book character who rules the Hel and the realm of Niflheim and is a sworn enemy of Thor.
When Mark Ruffalo, who plays the character of Hulk, confirmed the report that the Oscar winner will play a baddie in "Thor: Ragnarok," speculations started that she's going to play Hela.
"I'm so thrilled. I saw her at the Governors' banquet here and heard that maybe she was circling, they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, 'Please, please, please make this work!'" Ruffalo told ET Online.
"She's just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting," the actor added.
Just like in the comics, Hela possesses super human strength. She's going to be near undefeatable while putting on her cloak Accordingly, she rules over the dead souls of the Nine Realms.
Hela will reportedly travel to Asgard and collaborate with Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, according to Geek.
While the motives of Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death, are still unknown in "Thor: Ragnarok," she is said to be the impetus that will move the story forward.
As Hela comes face to face with the God of Thunder, who will be played by Chris Hemsworth, she will expel him from Asgard and will demolish Mjolnir, according to IGN.
The circumstances surrounding the production of "Thor: Ragnarok" has been pretty interesting, including the addition of a new writer and the plan to churn out buddy-movie featuring the God of Thunder and Hulk.
The plot of "Thor: Ragnarok" will possibly involve the event of Norse apocalypse and eventual rising of dead spirits, which took place in the comics.
In "Avengers: Age of Ultron," Thor had a vision of Hell, one of the realms set aside for the dead. It is speculated that this fact will play some role in the latest movie, according to Collider.
Cate Blanchett, for her part, has not issued a statement confirming or denying the rumor about playing Hela in "Thor: Ragnarok."
