Yasutaro Koide, who was recognized by Guinness World Records as the World's Oldest Man at the age of 112 in August of last year, died in a hospital in Nagoya, Japan last Tuesday. The cause of death was reportedly heart failure and pneumonia.

Koide was born on Mar. 13, 1903 in the Fukui Prefecture. When he was younger he lived most of his life as a tailor for men's clothes, Japan Times noted.

Koide receive the certification from the Guiness World Records a month after the former title-holder, and fellow Japanese, died in July.

Relatives who took care of Koide fondly remember him as someone who was doing "very well" for a person his age, according to Guinness News. He was able to walk around the house and was using a wheelchair when going out to regularly visit a daycare center. Additionally, he also used his teeth during meals instead of dentures and could even read the newspaper without glasses.

"The best thing is to not overdo," answered Koide when he was asked about the secret to a long life.

His granddaughter recalled as she spoke to local newspaper Chunichi Shimbun that he demonstrated a life with ease as he got older. "He was very stubborn, but he got nicer with age," she said. "His lifestyle is one that avoids stress."

Time reported that the next man to succeed the throne is reportedly another Japanese aging 111 years. The man has been identified as Masamitsu Yoshida, a native of Tokyo, who was born on May 30, 1904. Guinness World Records has yet to announce the confirmation of his status as the next oldest man in the world.

Japan's consecutive "world's oldest man" titles has been attributed to the country's rapidly aging population. The country currently has over 61,000 centenarians or elderly citizens who are at least 100 years old.
