In a report by Den of Geek, rumors about the existence of the said movie has been going around for quite some time now. While the fans were hopeful, there didn't seem to be any sign of it happening anytime soon, up until now.
In the premiere of the movie, "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi," which is directed by Michael Bay, a trailer for a movie called "10 Cloverfield Lane" was shown.
After which, viewers and critics quickly assumed that the said trailer is perhaps pertaining to the "Cloverfield 2" movie, thus causing them to scour the internet for spoilers. According to the source cited above, the rumors were made stronger because of the fact that "10 Cloverfield Lane" is a film hailing from Bad Robot, which is JJ Abrams' own production company. Moreso, the film is under Paramount, both of which are where the first "Cloverfield" film was under as well.
After the trailer came out, news sites have also confirmed that the "10 Cloverfield Lane" is the official title for the next film under the franchise. JJ Abrams himself was apparently the one who confirmed the news.
"The idea came up a long time ago during production," the director said, as reported by Collider. "We wanted to make it a blood relative of 'Cloverfield.' The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible".
As to the spoilers of the upcoming film, cast member Mary Elizabeth Winstead released a statement herself, and pertained to its plot, as explained by JJ Abrams himself.
"He tells me that basically the world is over outside because there's been a nuclear fall-out," the actress said. "It does have similarity to 'Faults' (her previous movie) in some ways, because you don't know who's telling the truth or who to believe. There's a lot of, who's manipulating who, and all of that. Tonally, it's very different, but it has some of those same themes."
Since then, fans have been expressing their excitement over "Cloverfield 2." They are saying that the spoilers for the film provided by Mary Elizabeth Winstead is definitely something that will pique the interest of the public.
