'Fast And Furious 8" Cast: Cody Walker To Lead Upcoming Spinoff; Eva Mendes Set To Return As New Love Interest?
"Furious 8" will be the first movie in the final trilogy of the "Fast and Furious" series. It's also becoming the subject of casting rumors, with the latest claiming that Cody Walker (Paul Walker's younger brother) and Eva Mendes are returning to the franchise.
Although "Furious 8" marks the end of the original storyline, Vin Diesel reassured fans that the franchise will continue with spin-offs and prequels.
In an interview with Variety, the "Riddick" star revealed that the creative team behind "Fast and the Furious" have already begun writing the standalone films.
"We've written out story lines for various characters," Diesel said. "We've been playing with it for a long time. It's a very rich property and we're committed to treating it with a lot of class."
This, of course, sparked rumors that Cody Walker, who portrayed his late brother's character in "Furious 7" via CGI, was going lead his own film.
According to Movie News Guide, Cody Walker's name was listed on IMDb as a part of "Furious 8" but was later on taken down from the cast roster, leading to speculations that he may have been enlisted for another "Fast and Furious" film, possibly portraying a new character.
"Rumours suggest Cody Walker will play Brian's brother Jack O'Connor, this could only mean that Brian's son Jack is named after his brother," notes IMDb.
Meanwhile, Eva Mendes who played the role of agent Monica Fuentes in 2003's "2 Fast 2 Furious," has been confirmed to appear in "Furious 8," set to play a significant role in the upcoming movie's plot.
Fuentes will team up with Dominic Toretto (Diesel), Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and the rest of the crew to take on a new villain in New York.
