Rene Angelil Has A ‘Dying Wish’ Before Cancer Takes His Life At 73; Celine Dion Cancels 2 Shows
Celine Dion's husband, Rene Angelil, died of throat cancer on Thursday morning at the age of 73.
The rep, who confirmed the news with People, revealed that the family has requested for privacy as they mourn of his passing.
"Rene Angelil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer," a statement from the rep read. "The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment."
Meanwhile, the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner revealed to the news outlet that the former member of the Canadian pop rock group The Baronets passed away "while under the care of a physician."
The report further narrated that the death of Celine Dion's spouse, Rene Angelil, who was battling throat cancer for almost two decades, was because of "natural causes." Therefore, "no further investigation" is needed.
It can be noted that during an interview with the publication in March, the 47-year-old singer admitted that "I am scared of losing him, because it's bad."
"But I have to show myself, my husband and my kids that I'm strong and we're okay," the "My Heart Will Go On" diva shared, adding that she was committed to keep her better half's "dying wish."
"I'll say, 'You're scared? I understand. Talk to me about it,'" Celine Dion disclosed about Rene Angelil and his cancer battle. "And René says to me, 'I want to die in your arms.' Okay, fine, I'll be there, you'll die in my arms."
In the meantime, TMZ reported that the "Falling Into You" artist has already opted to cancel her shows this weekend.
"We've learned Celine has already cancelled the 2 shows she was scheduled to do at Caesars Palace this weekend," the report dished. "She's set to return on Feb. 23rd."
Celine Dion and Rene Angelil, who was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1998, have three children.
