Reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother 2016 was slammed after airing Angie Bowie's reaction over her ex-husband, David Bowie's, death on Monday night.

The show's viewers criticized its producers for exploiting Angie Bowie as she broke down in front of the camera after she was informed of David's passing away. The actress was given the news off-camera about the iconic musician's death

"I haven't seen him in so many years, I can't make a big drama about it. I just feel like an era has ended," Angie Bowie said inside the Diary room, per The Guardian.

"With his passing, I'm so very sad," she said. "The stardust is gone."

By airing Angie's grieving clip over David Bowie's death, Celebrity Big Brother 2016 received backlash as viewers slammed the show for taking advantage of the situation for promotion. But the author's manager Ray Santilli said that she was given plenty of time to process the news off-camera.

"She had plenty of time to consider her position," Santili relayed as shared by The Sydney Morning Herald.

"She made the decision to go back in the house, she made the decision to be interviewed afterwards. Obviously when Big Brother was talking to her and asking questions, it is emotional," Santili noted.

"The whole Celebrity Big Brother 2016 experience is emotional and she knew that before she went in to the house. Channel 5 have been magnificent. They've left it entirely up to her to make the decision. She had no pressure," he added.

Celebrity Big Brother 2016 contestant Angie and David Bowie were married for 10 years and had not seen each other for decades after their divorce. Prior to his death, the "Starman" singer has been mum about his terminal illness, to the exception of his close friends.

"But it was nonetheless excruciating to watch her try to come to terms to Bowie's death, which followed an 18-month battle with cancer," The Telegraph noted.
