Does "Terminator: Genisys" deserve a sequel?

Industry observers have weighed in on the "worst" movies of 2015, and it seems that doing another follow up to the iconic sci-fi sequel might not be such a wise decision, according to a news report by Forbes.

"This stunning misfire represents everything wrong with modern Hollywood thinking," wrote Forbes' Scott Mendelson who identified the factors which negated the "charms of the original film."

"It presumes an overall interest in a decades-old franchise just because 'Terminator 2' and 'Terminator 3' were big hits well over a decade ago," Mendelson explained.

Aside from giving "Terminator: Genisys" lead stars Jai Courtney and Emilia Clarke "little-to-no-personality," the Forbes critic said argued that the film "spends so much time explaining itself in terms of the new continuity that it never gets to play in the new continuity."

Moreover, Mendelson noted that the movie withheld "vital information" for the "Terminator: Genisys" sequel that "will likely may never happen," adding that "its PG-13 for no good reason thus turning off the very fan base that might have shown up in the first place."

As if these missteps were not enough, the Forbes reviewer blasted the "cyborgs vs. humans" remake for its reportedly boring plot, generic action sequence, and characters which  allegedlyshowed a lack of chemistry.

"...the film spends much of its 125-minute running time straining to justify its existence and justify the extension of the brand," the Forbes film reviewer said.

"It is less a movie than a full-length commercial for the potential of ongoing Terminator movies that use the concept of time travel to keep itself alive well past the point of expiration," Mendelson added.

Meanwhile, Film School Rejects pointed out that there may not be enough motivation to do a "Terminator:  Genisys" sequel, as "Genisys" borrowed elements from the original Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer, but allegedly failed to pay homage to the original film.

"The idea doesn't always work, as seen with this year's 'Terminator: Genisys,' in part because that movie revisits the plot of the original, plus elements of its more-popular follow-up, in order to erase their events rather than honor them," the film review site observed.

"Maybe it's actually the opposite of a 'remakequel' for that reason."  Film School Rejects noted, adding that, "There's little respect for the fans and what they want in terms of familiarity."

With the odds stacked against its favor, based on the news, could a "Terminator: Genisys" sequel turn out to be a risky proposition?
