Comic book fans and moviegoers alike were ecstatic to hear the latest announcement that the movie "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" has moved its release date to an earlier time.

Moreover, speculations have spread around as to whether veteran-actor Kurt Russel will be joining the film's cast to play as Star-Lord's father, according to sources.

Fans of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie would remember that the initial release date of the film was set on July 28, 2017.

However, it was later on announced that fans will be able to see the "GOTG" sequel at an earlier time as it was moved two and half months earlier, which will be on May 5, 2017, due to Marvel's third installment of "Thor" occupying the July 2017 schedule, as reported by We Got This Covered.

According to a posted video, writer and director James Gunn, who will also return to take reigns over the film's sequel, announced that the release date for "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will be on May of 2017, as reported by the source.

"We previously reported that the sequel to Marvel's hit "Guardians of the Galaxy" would cruise into theaters in July of 2017...but Star-Lord and his crew have had a change of mind," posted in the official press release, courtesy of Marvel.

"While we can't give you a title or any more details just yet, fret not, because we've got plenty of other news coming your way on Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Stay tuned to Marvel.com for the latest on the Guardians and more as it develops," the official press release further stated.

In addition, the speculations have been confirmed that Kurt Russel was in negotiations to join the cast of "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" to play the role of Star-Lords dad, as stated by Latinos Health.

As Kurt Russel will be joining the cast of "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," director James Gunn stated that the 64-year old actor would have great on-screen chemistry with Chris Pratt, who will be playing his son as Star-Lord, according to Latino Post.

The director further added that Russel's own brand of sarcasm will be a great addition to the cast of the movie and would blend well with Pratt, as reported by the source.
