Fans of the hit 1990s TV series "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" were excited to hear the latest news and details about the Lionsgate-reboot of the fan-favorite teenage superhero flick.

Moreover, reports have surfaced that revealed more details on the film's cast members and its release date, according to sources.

After almost two decades, Lionsgate made an announcement that it will make a reboot of the popular "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" that was said to take on a more "mature but playful" approach to be directed by Dean Isrealite ("Project Almanac" and "Acholiland") with script writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller ("X-Men: First Class" and "Thor"), as reported by Screen Rant.

It was also confirmed that the reboot or re-imagining of the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" by Lionsgate and Saban Entertainment will retain the franchise's original names and characters introduced in the 1993 "Power Rangers," as stated by the Movie Web.

Reports have also mentioned that the "Mighty Morphin Power Ranger" reboot will include Haim Saban, the original creator of the 1993 series, Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur as producers of the film, courtesy of the source.

Director Dean Israelite also revealed that the much anticipated reboot of the franchise is already in its "soft pre-production," as reported by the Franchise Herald.

"I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way," the director said, courtesy of IGN UK.

"It had this wonderful character that's essential to going on a fantastic adventure. I was instantly drawn to it," he added.

"I remember it as a kid. I grew up with it in South Africa. When I opened the script I had no idea how it was going to be updated, and I was really impressed by it, " the director further added.

Moreover, it was also reported that the cast for the rebooted "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" will include Dacre Montgomery (as Jason aka The Red Ranger), Naomi Scott (as Kimberly aka The Pink Ranger), RJ Cler (as Billy aka The Blue Ranger), Ludi Lin (as Zack aka The Black Ranger) and Becky Gomez (as Trini aka The Yellow Ranger), as listed by Screen Rant.

The upcoming reboot of the franchise will expect a release date in January 2017, which is being filmed in Vancouver, courtesy of NBC News.
