"It's all new to me, but starting to develop scripts and work on them, they take time" Fassbinder said in a statement.
"It just takes time to get a good story together and we really want to do it right... That's always the challenge of something that's so dense, to really find something and pare it down and, basically, there are so many elements to it. Trying to translate that to an audience, you have to pick key things. [P]art of it is getting through the density of it and paring down and engaging a simple story."
Assassin's Creed will be Lebed's first mainstream film. Labed won the Best Actress award in Venice in 2010 for her performance in Athina Rachel Tsangari's Attenberg. Last year, the 31-year-old actress won the Locarno Best Actress award for her work in Lucia Borleteau's Fidelio, Alice's Odyssey.
Assassin's Creed tells the story of Desmond Miles, who was captured by a secret organization with ties to the Knight Templar and sent back in time to get historical artifacts.
The new "Assassin's Creed" reunites Macbeth's award-winning actress Marion Cotillard with Michael Fassbender. This year's forthcoming Macbeth was directed by Justin Kurzel (The Turning), who is directing the live-action adaptation of the Ubisoft video game.
Cotillard was nominated for a best actress Oscar for "Two Days, One Night" and won the Academy Award for her role in the 2008 film "La Vie en Rose." Marion Cotillard doesn't do many blockbusters, thought she starred in "The Dark Knight Rises," directed by Christopher Nolan, and "Inception," directed by Steven Soderbergh. She's also had a small role in "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues." No word yet on Cotillard's role. The Assassin's Creed video game series has featured several female Assassins. It the film scores, Marion is expected to return for sequels.
The Assassin's Creed movie was originally slated for Aug. 7, 2015. It has been delayed until Dec. 16, 2016.
