Singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran, announced Saturday night, on Instagram and Twitter that he will take a break from singing and social media come January to focus on a new album, according to Rolling Stone.

Sheeran has five and a half million followers on Instagram and 16 million on Twitter. Part of his "break" will be for him to work on a follow-up to his 2014 album "X," pronounced "Multiply."

The singer ended his world tour in Auckland, New Zealand as well, Saturday night. He also apologized to his family and fans for "buggering off for a bit."

"The 3rd album is on its way and is the best thing I have made thus far," wrote Sheeran. He also added, he will return to social media "next autumn."

Fans will still be able to see Ed Sheeran at the 58th Grammy Awards on Feb. 15 because his song "Thinking Out Loud" is nominated for Record of The Year, Song of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.

Sheeran also just recently sustained an injury after jumping off a yacht. An eardrum burst and the singer has to undergo surgery early next year, revealed MTV News.

"I have to have an operation in January on my ear because I stupidly jumped off a yacht really high up and smashed it," he told Australia's Nova radio. "I landed wrong and it burst my eardrum so I have to go and get a graft, which means I'm not allowed to fly for a while, so it's kind of good, it means I have to stay at home."

After jumping, he returned to the water and realized the extent of the injury, reported Billboard.

"It's the most painful thing having a hole in your eardrum and having water go in," recalled Sheeran.

Ed Sheeran's second album topped the Australia, UK and US charts. He also recently set up his own label, Gingerbread Man Records, signing Jamie Lawson and Northern Irish singer Foy Vance, shared BBC.
