Scott Weiland Receives Tribute From Velvet Revolver's Matt Sorum; Details Of His Death Revealed!

"Velvet Revolver's" Matt Sorum remembers his time with his bandmate Scott Weiland, in a long conversation on Matt Pinfield's SiriusXM show, according to Rolling Stone.

Sorum, a former drummer in both "Guns N' Roses" and "Velvet Revolver" recollects Weiland's talent and his experience working with him, revealed Billboard.

"I don't know how I felt initially," said Sorum. "I can't say it was a shock, but it was definitely."

He added, "I wasn't expecting it because I felt like Scott was gonna be here hopefully longer than this."

The drummer shared his reaction to first hearing the news of Weiland's passing. He added that due to differences the band split up but the emotions he felt was "more like a family member."

"It's like if you had a family member that maybe you didn't get along with great, but you still love them," he explained. "That's the feeling."

Scott Weiland was "Stone Temple Pilots'" and "Velvet Revolver's" lead singer. He passed away Thursday, Dec. 3 at 48 years old due to cardiac arrest, losing his unending battle with drug addiction. He passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop with the band "The Wildabouts."

The Bloomington, Minnesota police department said cocaine was found beside his body in his tour bus bedroom.

Tommy Black, another band member was arrested on suspicion of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance, but has not been formally charged, according to police. Cocaine was also found in Black's area in the bus.

"There was nothing that appeared suspicious at the scene, and no evidence of foul play," told Deputy Chief Dennis Otterness to CNN. Authorities do not believe Black's possession case is connected to Weiland's death.

"Let us start by saying thank you for sharing your life with us," posted Weiland's old band on Facebook. "Together we crafted a legacy of music that has given so many people happiness and great memories.

The memories are many, and they run deep for us. We know amidst the good and the bad you struggled, time and time again."

Scott Weiland is one of the most recognizable characters in American hard rock. He was a dynamic performer susceptible to cocaine and heroin abuse, reported The Guardian.

He rose to fame in the 90s as the lead singer of "Stone Temple Pilots," a San Diego based band. Weiland achieved notoriety by joining former members of "Guns N' Roses" in "Velvet Revolver" in 2003.
