Samsung is gearing up to showcase its most advanced foldable phones yet at Galaxy Unpacked on July 9, 2025. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 promise significant upgrades that address the series' biggest criticisms while introducing groundbreaking design improvements.

Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event takes place on July 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM ET in Brooklyn, New York. This marks the first major foldable launch in New York since 2022, signaling Samsung's renewed focus on the American market.

Revolutionary Thickness Reduction

The Z Fold 7's standout feature is its dramatically thinner profile. The device measures just 8.9mm when folded and 4.2mm when unfolded, compared to the Z Fold 6's 12.1mm and 5.6mm dimensions. This represents over a 3mm reduction in both configurations.

Weight drops to 215g from the previous 239g, making it lighter than even Samsung's bar-style Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Larger Displays, Enhanced Experience

The Z Fold 7 features an 8.0-inch main display and 6.5-inch cover screen, up from 7.6 inches and 6.3 inches respectively on the Z Fold 6. The larger screens contribute to the slimmer profile by providing more space for internal components.

Samsung has also addressed the controversial under-display camera, replacing it with a traditional punch-hole design for improved image quality.

Camera and Performance Upgrades

The Z Fold 7 introduces Samsung's first 200MP main camera on a foldable device, matching the Galaxy S25 Ultra's photography capabilities. The device runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite "for Galaxy" chipset with 12GB of RAM.

However, the battery remains at 4,400mAh with 25W charging speeds unchanged from previous generations.

First Exynos-Powered Samsung Foldable

The Z Flip 7 will be the first Samsung foldable to use an Exynos processor globally, specifically the Exynos 2500 built on a 3nm process. Early benchmarks show Geekbench scores of 2,012 (single-core) and 7,563 (multi-core), placing performance roughly equivalent to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Enhanced Battery and Display

The Z Flip 7 gets a significant battery upgrade to 4,300mAh from 4,000mAh, addressing one of the series' main criticisms. The cover screen grows to 4.1 inches while the main display expands to 6.9 inches.

Despite the larger battery, the device becomes thinner at 13.7mm folded and 6.5mm unfolded, down from the Z Flip 6's 14.9mm and 6.9mm measurements.

European pricing leaks suggest potential price increases, though Samsung may adjust pricing for different markets. Samsung offers a $50 credit for early reservations through July 8.

Based on Samsung's typical release schedule, the phones should be available for purchase 2-3 weeks after the announcement, likely between July 23-25.

Both devices will launch with One UI 8 based on Android 16, making them among the first phones to ship with Google's latest OS. Samsung promises enhanced Galaxy AI features optimized specifically for foldable form factors, including improved multitasking and productivity tools.

Samsung may also introduce a more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE at the event, potentially featuring the Exynos 2400e processor to compete with budget-friendly alternatives like the Motorola Razr 2025.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 represent Samsung's most comprehensive foldable update in years. The Z Fold 7's ultra-thin design and 200MP camera address key user complaints, while the Z Flip 7's Exynos processor and larger battery tackle long-standing performance issues.

With Chinese manufacturers like Vivo and Honor pushing thinner, more capable foldables, Samsung needed to deliver meaningful upgrades beyond incremental improvements. These 2025 models appear to do exactly that, potentially cementing Samsung's leadership in the global foldable market for years to come.
